What is it?

Introducing the Protection Addon for the Silent Driver Upgrade Board V1 and V1.1 (V1.2 has the protections already built in).

Features:

• Fused Power Input: Equipped with a fuse, providing robust protection against overloads or faults in the 5V power input.

• Reverse Polarity Protection: A safeguard has been implemented on the 5V supply line to ensure it will only supply and not receive high voltage.

• Signal Protection Diodes: Comprehensive signal protection diodes are now integrated across all signals originating from the Rambo board.

Key Benefits:

These added protections fortify your system against unforeseen events. In the unlikely event of an external driver failure pushing 12-24V to the Rambo signal pins (operating at 5V), the signal diodes act as a barrier, significantly reducing the risk to the Rambo board. While these protections greatly enhance safety and reliability, it's essential to note that no protection is 100% fault proof. However, it substantially minimize the risks for such a fault destroying the Rambo.

It's worth mentioning that while the faults that this board protects against are VERY rare, if they do occur, resolving them could be complex or costly, potentially requiring MCU replacement or even the entire Rambo board.

Why did you make it?

I developed this addon in response to a reported incident where an external driver malfunctioned after months of operation, sending 24V to the pins driving the X-axis. This resulted in the destruction of those pins, rendering the X-axis inoperable, while Y, Z and E was fine. To prevent such damage from occurring again, I created this protection addon.
