Measuring just 12.7mm x 12.7mm, it’s smaller than its predecessor (the Micro MCP2515 CAN bus castellated module) while maintaining the same functionality. Its castellated hole design allows for PCB integration using your preferred connector (see example implementation) or quick prototyping on a breadboard.
Over the past few years, we've been involved in various student projects including underwater robotics, Mars rovers, and hobby rockets. All these projects required communication between system nodes. We found existing CAN bus solutions to be large and cumbersome, often lacking good fastening options and to be incompatible with our preferred connectors. Driven by the idea to streamline upcoming projects, we created this small-sized module with castellated holes to address these challenges.
Ultra-Compact Size: At just 12.7mm x 12.7mm, this module is smaller than its predecessor, providing flexibility in tight spaces.
Castellated Holes: Easily integrate the module into your system by soldering it directly to a PCB or using it on a breadboard.
Connector Flexibility: Choose your preferred connector to ensure smooth integration with your design.
SPI Interface: Communicate reliably with the MCP2515 chip over SPI. For additional information, refer to the MCP2515 datasheet and other online resources.
Power Indicator LED: Quickly confirm that the board is powered and operational.
120Ω Termination: A solder jumper allows for bus termination with a 120Ω resistor, making it ready for integration.
Check out this excellent tutorial by Last Minute ENGINEERS for implementing the device with Arduino. While the tutorial uses another MCP2515-based module, the steps remain the same for the Nano MCP2515 CAN bus Castellated Module: https://lastminuteengineers.com/mcp2515-can-module-arduino-tutorial
