What is it?

 This is a modified version of the Arduino Mega rev.3 PCB

Why did you make it?

 The Arduino Mega sometimes can not be replaced with some different board in complex projects, which require  a lot of control signals and communication lines. The Arduino Mega has the advantage of multiple UART interfaces and digital IO's. The price of the standard Arduino Mega is quite high. Other disadvantage is that it requires B-type USB cable for PC communication and programming. So... I decided to redesign the original Arduino Mega in the way, that it becomes more cheaper and easy to use.

The changes I did - I use the CH340G chip for USB to seral converter instead the Atmega16U. I replaced the USB port with micro-USB connector. For the 3.3 V on board regulator I used the more powerful, cheaper and easy to find chip AMS1117 3.3V. These all changes make the Arduino Mega mere cheaper and comfortable to use.

What makes it special?

  The PCB requires quite high experience with the soldering - the pin pitches of the microcontroller used is very small. The used chip resistors are also difficult to solder. After assembling of the board a bootloader must be burn inside the microcontroller chip to have the full USB functionality. If you want to program always the Arduino through the ISP interface, you can omit the soldering of the CH340G chip and the surroundings. On the board can be soldered either Atmega2560, either Atmega1280 chips.
