What is it?

This is an external USB audio DAC, which can be used as alternative in the case of missing or bad quality computer sound card. It has high quality stereo audio headphone/line output. If better sound quality is required, then can be used the available on the card coaxial or optical S/PDIF interface, or even the I2S interface, which is also available for access. Both interfaces work alternatively and which of them is active is selected by a jumper. The sound card has four control buttons: PLAY/PAUSE, MUTE, VOLUME UP, VOLUME DOWN. It does not require any driver for Windows XP, Vista, 7. Should work also with the higher Windows versions. It works fine also under Linux. It has mini-USB interface.

Why did you make it?

I was interested in the sound quality which this chip produces. The PCM2706 chip is active since more then 15 years and always is loved by the audio fans.

What makes it special?

Nice sound quality - even with the embedded inside the chip 16 bit audio DAC's and supplied by the USB. The design uses SMD ceramic and tantalum capacitors and audio transformer for the coaxial S/PDIF interface. The board is small 74x44 mm and can be put in small elegant plastic/aluminium housing.

Excellent device. Plug and play. No fuss operation.

1. The SPDIF is an output.
2. The buttons are from left to right with the buttons on top:
a. Volume down
b. Volume up
c. Mute
d. Play/Pause

No Idea what the jumper does.... yet.

It took a while to get here, but I blame USPS / Christmas season.

It sounds surprisingly good, All I have that is wired are some 20$ buds but they sound way better than I expected.

It does come with a picture detailing the female pin header.
