What is it?

An improved GBS8200 RGB to VGA converter board; commonly referred to to as the GBS Control (GBSC). These boards are mediocre quality in their original design; but with the included modifications, they compete with the legendary ‘Micomsoft Framemeister Mini’ for around 10% of the cost!

This modified design includes:

Rear facing SCART Input
Front facing DSUB Video Input
Front facing Component Video Input
Rear facing RCA Audio Output (from SCART)
Rear facing DSUB Video Output

All orders come with a clockgen modification for the ultimate unit. The Clockgen modifications correct minor screen tearing that some people have encountered in specific system configurations.

What makes it unique?

This modification adds an ESP8266 wireless module, pre-programmed with the source code written by "ramapcsx2", such that all video settings occur through a web-based interface. This code makes the GBS8200 lagless which is perfect for retro-gaming.

Please allow a reasonable delivery window based on your country, holiday season, weather events, etc.

USA and Canada almost always takes less than 10 days.
Asian countries 3-4 weeks.
European countries 4-6 weeks.

All electronic items are carefully packaged in a well made, 200lb crush-proof box. They are not shipped in a bubble mailer; unless it is a non-electronic item such as an acrylic case. All parcels are tracked.

Lost Parcels

A parcel will be considered lost when after 60 calendar days from the last recorded activity, it does not show delivery to your address (i.e. no movement for 60 days). Full refund will be issued soon as insurer indicates paid status on claim (usually within 14 days), as buyer will have to complete a brief avadavat for the insurer.

Returns / Warranty

Defective pre-assembled electronics items (that is, items assembled by Chipnetics) may be returned, at buyers cost, for a full refund, less shipping; and must land at our office door within 21 calendar days of tracking delivery date; and be in like new (/new) condition.

Refunds will instantly be issued soon as the item has been confirmed defective.
Refunds will not be processed for returns that are lost in the mail. Be sure you insure your shipment.
Refunds due to buyers remorse or non-defectiveness (i.e. lack of understanding of product application, technical requirements, etc.) will be issued less both a $20 USD restock fee and original shipping cost.

There is no refund on kits sold by Chipnetics, after they been assembled by the customer. Refunds, less original shipping cost, will be issued on kits that are still complete and have not been assembled by the customer.

It is best to ship returns using USPS or with generic mail carriers. Shipping returns via UPS, FedEx, DHL (or any expediter) is highly discouraged, as this usually results in import duty fees. Be sure to mark returned packages as a "Commercial Return to Manufacturer Country of Origin" with $0 value, to avoid these situations - although this as well does not guarantee duties will not be applied. Any import duties paid by Chipnetics will be deducted from the refund amount - no exceptions.

Of course, in all situations, I am happy to works with buyers to resolve issues; but ultimately these terms will take precedence.

Great way to experience the GBS-C!

This is a great, solid way to get a GBS-C. You're not just getting a modified board in a case; there's an entire additional custom board that helps house the mods and overall makes it a nice reliable and stable device. It also adds some connectivity features you may not get otherwise.

I recently moved across the country, and realized my previous self-modified GBS-C no longer worked. It was a fun project and I like saving money, but one downside to my own DIY stuff is that it's not always consistently useful or is in some transition (I added BNC connectors to it, but the 3d printed case I had made no longer fit it, so it was out of the case during the move and this probably broke it). Also, I had never added the clock gen mod because I could never decide on a great place to put it.

Given the above, you're getting a lot for the price. This is a solid device that probably works better than the one I had made prior, so I'm very happy with it.

Great device with awesome build quality

Great device with awesome build quality but make sure you use a high quality VGA to HDMI converter or cable. At first I thought my unit was defective as I was experiencing faint diagonal lines fall down the screen when playing SNES and PS2 but realized they were non-existent when playing with an actual VGA monitor, that's what I get for using a cheap generic adapter found in my drawer.

Great workmanship and product!

The craftsmanship on the GBSControl is phenomenal! It's well worth the uncharge of getting one pre-made vs building one yourself if you're not super familiar or comfortable with soldering and building one yourself. Plus, the design is very small and minimal.

I originally purchased the GBSControl and had issues (nothing related to the build). Turns out, GBSControls do not play nice with Retrovision HD Cables.

I messaged Chipnetics explaining what issues I was having. They were very professional and quick to respond. They were very eager to either allow me to return for a refund, or try a few troubleshooting steps. As I really do not like returning products I opted for the troubleshooting. We came to the conclusion (based on other people's experience) that GBSControllers just do not play nice with the Retrovision cables.

So, they shipped me a playbaby sub adapter ($50) for free for the trouble I was running into. Something they 100% did not have to do.

When I received the PlayBaby and connected everything, the GBSControl worked liked a charm!
Anyone who is looking at the GBSControl for a PS2. I highly recommend getting the PlayBaby DSUB. Or, at least try to get OEM Sony Component Cables.

I give Chipnetics as a store and their customer service a 10/10.

For the GBS Control. I decided to get the GBS Control over a Retrotink 5X Pro for a few reasons.
1) price. $300 is just a bit too steep for 1 console. PS2 is the only non HDMI console I have. Plus, they are rarely ever in stock. Once they go live, they sell out quick.
2) The $30 Hyperkin AV to HDMI converter I have is good, but it really left me wanting a bit more.
So, I figured a GBS Control was a good middle ground after watching some YouTube videos.
I am glad I went with the GBS Control. Sure, I could have built one for maybe $50-60, but my workmanship would be nowhere near as good as
what I got with Chipnetics. Not even close!
Playing PS2 games on my tv at 1080 is AWESOME. Games look great, input lag is non-existent.

The only thing negative I'll say about the GBS Control is how you need to access the menu. You have to connect to the wifi chip thats on the device and use a url to change your settings. But, once you get it to how you like it, you'll never have to open it ever again.

Over all, the GBS Control is a 8/10 (This is no way reflecting chipnetics as it's just the GBS Control in general).

I think anyone can buy from Chipnetics with confidence! I would just recommend reading up on GBS Controllers in general, and NOT USE Retrovision HD Cables.

Great box with huge value for decent price

The modded GBS comes with all the necessities and a great note how to start using it. The latest edition includes very useful upgrades like a vga to hdmi converter pre installed and a switch for selecting Scart vs component input on the fly. For further questions I was promptly answered and received detailed help if I needed it to further understand the GBS and it’s controls. Can recommend

Product is ok and does the job with a few caveats

I use this mainly for upscaling arcade hardware to modern displays, JAMMA boards, CPS1-3, NeoGeo. The product works mostly well but I get washed out colors and overly bright whites alot. Some JAMMA boards would sync at 1080 but the picture would be jumping up and down running in 720P mode seemed to correct this. There isn't alot of documentation on the options in the menu, most of which are pretty straight forward but definitely a few head scratchers I had to look up. Questions and support responses came pretty quickly at first but after a couple of short emails the maker stopped replying to emails which was rather disappointing as I have several issues not quite resolved. Also reviewing the mod itself I can't confirm it but seemed like some shortcuts were taken.

Edit: I was able to update the firmware and work out many issues I had with color/gamma being washed out. I did not request a return as the product worked for its intended purpose. My major complaint was the sudden drop in communication, I understand you can't offer unlimited support but if you can't or are unwilling to help I don't think its too much to ask for you to just say so rather than just stop replying to emails. That being said I still recommend the seller and the product for someone needing to upscale arcade hardware.

Max, I sent you 18 emails working through your specific setup with you, as best I could. To see a review 10 months after your purchase, despite that, is a surprise. I'm happy to help all my customers with email dialog, to a point. Eventually, with a family, career, mortgage and life, I have to move on to other customers needs. Great product

Works great, event if it lacks a bit more documentation, like à diagram, or a proper manual. But you can find the informations on the github of Rama, and the description of the scaler.
The 240p downscale is great !
I use it to send 15 khz video from my computer (640/480) to my PVM monitors.

A great upscaler for the price.

With so many upscalers available, it's easy to feel overwhelmed with all the choices out there, especially if you still want to get good image quality from your consoles while on a tight budget. Thankfully this little upscaler does a fine job, and its motion adaptive de-interlacing does a fantastic job at getting rid of the annoying flickering present in most PS2 titles, like Timepsplitters 1, Silent Hill 3, and DMC1 which run at like 480i on the platform. With that said it's still worth keeping expectations in check, even with an upscaler as good as this it can only do so much to make old games running at low resolutions look good, don't expect it to magically turn them into HD conversions. It's also not the most plug and play solution as you will have to have a VGA to HDMI adapter that also has an audio jack, but it's still a great solution for its cost and the seller is incredibly friendly and helpful.

Great for interlaced games.

Been using it for my PS2 games because, without it, the console caused a major burn-in on my computer monitor. Not anymore. The clock gen mod itself can do some wonky things though, like cause some artifacts between transitions or on solid backgrounds, but apparently, it can't be helped.

Great put-together package.

I wanted to get a GBS Control, but didn't want to deal with soldering and all the other required steps I would need to install GBS Control on this device. This seller has put together everything neatly, and in a nice casing. The GBS Control software came pre-installed, so it was just plug-and-play. I would say the cost is definitely worth it, since it saves you all the hassle of setting it up, and everything is ready to go. I've tested my PS2 and Wii with it, and it looks great with the motion-adaptive deinterlacing. The seller also responded quickly and answered my question well. Highly recommended if you want a GBS Control, but have little or no soldering knowledge.

The motion de-interlacing looks really good on this, much better than the bob de-interlacing on other devices.

Punches WAY above its weight

Big props to Chipnetics Computing for offering the full GBS control experience for those who aren't particularly skilled with a soldering iron. Setup was a little finicky, but the written instructions included helped sort everything out. I'm using the GBS with my OSSC to deinterlace 480i content, and boy is it a big step up. The OSSC's bob deinterlacing is decent, all things considered. But the GBS' motion adaptive deinterlacing is a cut above. Best of all, it integrates seamlessly with my OSSC and gcompsw.

Love it

This product works exactly as I expected. Apart from video games it does a good job deinterlacing PAL DVDs. Works great as a Component to RGBHV transcoder as well. Happy with the quality of assembly. Nil complaints. There are a few other products coming to market based on the same board and custom firmware that add SCART inputs and HDMI output but I don’t need either of those things so this version by Chipnetics was perfect.
