What is it?

A 12V to 5.0V DC/DC step down converter based on the Texas Instruments LM2743 IC.

Why did you make it?

To efficiently convert 12 VDC to 5 VDC. To power a load of hard disk drives on an ATX PSU that can carry loads of current on the 12V rail and a lot less on the 5V rail.
