This is an adapter board to connect your EEE keyboard to a Teensy 2.0 - making it into a USB keyboard. It's generally useful if you have a small EEE keyboard and you'd like to turn it into a small embeddable USB input device. Moreover, it's indispensable if you're interested in hacking on your EEE PC and replacing the motherboard with something more modern (like a Raspberry Pi).

• All our work is open-source - both the PCB and the firmware files (to be exact, keyboard-layout-editor.com and kbfirmware.com sources that we used to generate the firmware).
• All the keys can be remapped to your heart's content (as far as QMK keycodes go), using the kbfirmware.com webpage where you can upload our source file to edit your mapping. If you want a small keyboard with native DVORAK (excluding the keys themselves), this is your chance ;-)
• There's no Caps Lock/Scroll Lock LED, but it's possible to add one, as there's one free GPIO on the keyboard (can be done upon request, message us for further info if you want an LED).
• The adapter is fairly small. Moreover, the board has a cutout exposing the the Teensy 3.3V/5V switchover pads, allowing you to make a low-power setup if needed.

Requirements

• A Teensy 2.0 (ATMega32U4-based) - we don't have any in stock right now to offer a "pre-assembled" option, but it's easy to get one on the PJRC store or from the usual Chinese suspects (first option is preferred unless shipping costs are a problem for you).
• An EEE 4G/701/900 keyboard.

Problems

• The tilde key (~, next to Esc) does not work. We might fix it in the future - in the meantime, we're putting a bug bounty of 7$ (price of the adapter board itself), which you'll get if you either fix the problem or share your findings, or correctly describe what was it that we got wrong (in case you can't fix it yourself to prove your fix is correct).

This board was designed as part of the EEEoma project, which has reverse-engineering and conversion of an EEE PC 701 motherboard to the EOMA-68 CPU card as its technical goal, main goal being promotion of the EOMA68 standard among hobbyists.

Q: Is it possible for you to design an adapter board for my laptop's keyboard?

A: Yes. Message me with info about your keyboard - photo of the backside&frontside (where all text on the stickers is readable, with zoomed shots if necessary), as well as info on the laptop it came from. I'll agree to work if I can find schematics for your keyboard connector, in which case you'll also have to make some measurements of the keyboard flex connector and send them to me. Then, I'll be able to deliver a custom-made adapter to you =) The price is not going to be more than $50 for all the work&hardware including regular tracked shipping from Latvia - not including the firmware adjustments, which you'll have to do yourself (as it'd require me to have the keyboard in order to do it). You'll have to be OK with all the resulting work from my side being open-sourced, as well as potentially sold again afterwards as a product on this store.

Q: Will there be other products reverse-engineering the EEE PC?

A: Yes, absolutely. Next goal is likely going to be power/battery management.

Q: Will it be compatible with my laptop's keyboard?
