What is it?

The Tasmota Wifi Smart Plug w/ Energy monitoring is a 16A AWP04L Smart Plug that was once compatible with Smart Life, but now been flashed with Tasmota 7.x and is fully compatible with SmartThings, Hubitat, MQTT-based Home Automation System, Home Assistant, Domoticz, HomeBridge, Homeseer, Alexa. You can even control your device via curl commands. This device is what you need if you have a disparate home automation environment that has many different needs. Being 2.4ghz Wifi based, you don't have to rely on a Zwave or Zigbee mesh that may or may not be as reliable as Wifi. You also have the ability to keep your automations local as a cloud connection is not required for this device to operate. (depending on your smart home system)

Why did you make it?

There are many different kinds of Tasmota-compatible plugs, but very few of them support power monitoring - the AWP04L is relatively inexpensive and is still somewhat easy to flash to a 3rd party firmware. It's not exactly straight-forward to do this and you don't always receive a device which can be flashed, so my value-add is procuring the devices and ensuring they are devices that can be properly flashed and configuring them for Wifi-AP mode ready for you to connect to and configure to your network. You can do this yourself using the above linked Tuya Convert and procuring the devices yourself from Amazon.

Instructions for Use

I have many uses for these devices. The beauty of them is that they are not cloud dependent. They run a web server and you can query them directly using curl or via a web browser to toggle them on/off. Below are links to systems that support Tasmota. When you receive this device, it will be broadcasting a Wireless SSID that has "tasmota" in it. Simply connect to the SSID and enter the information to your wireless network. If you make a mistake, plug the device in and hit the button on the front 4 times quickly and look for the SSID again.

The Fine Print

These devices are not manufactured by me, thus I cannot warranty the device. This device is not plug-in-play - you have to know what you're doing and must be comfortable making it work with the Home Automation System of your choice. If you are not completely comfortable adding drivers to your Home Automation system, configuring Wireless devices in Wifi AP mode, or configuring MQTT, then you might should use a standard Smart Life-configured device - which is how this device comes from the factory.

Also of note; the Tasmota version that this device will come with will be pre-configured to support the integrations mentioned above. I cannot support devices flashed with other versions not procured by me - if you wish to upgrade to future versions, that is on you.
