Works great in IBM 5150 and 5160

The PC/XT compatible version fits perfectly on my IBM 5160's motherboard (64-256k board with 28 pin BIOS ROM sockets) in socket U18 under one of the BIOS ROMs.

The IBM 5150 has 24 Pin ROM sockets so this module will not fit, unless you have an expansion card with an Expansion ROM socket such as an XT-IDE. I put my SmartWatch+ module between my XT-IDE board and the XT-IDE Boot ROM and the SmartWatch+ module is recognised and works perfectly. People with an early 5160 board using 24 pin ROMs may have to do the same thing.

The boards are well made and designed, and the new redesign fits very well. Works perfectly as per the documentation with the y2k updated SMWCLOCK.COM file that can be found in various places online.

Great product from a great seller.

This Tandy Smartwatch+ has finally given my Tandy 1000ex the ability to tell time, or more specifically, keep it. Might seem like a small thing, but entering the date and time at every boot is annoying and this fixes that issue. The seller is awesome and got a the product out to me quickly and it arrived safely.

An absolutely great piece of tech for your Tandy 1000!

Received my SmartWatch+ in the mail today... and after cutting away the RF shield with a pair of tin snips, installation was a piece of cake! The SmartWatch+ fits perfectly into the BIOS ROM slot, and the BIOS ROM chip is very easily seated into the SmartWatch+.

I should also mention that I had some questions before getting the SmartWatch+ today, and can definitely report that you can buy from Cybernatic Systems with great confidence! In talking to the owner, it became clear to me that the owner is a vintage tech enthusiast like myself and loves to tinker just as much as I do! The level of support that I have received on this product and on other products has been unprecedented.

Combined with other parts purchased here, my Tandy 1000 HX is now completely loaded and decked out! The parts offered here have breathed new life into this machine.

Great as always!

Worked great in my Tandy 1000HX. Great product. Not a complaint, but kinda wish it used cr2032 batteries, but I don't really care... I won't have to worry for YEARS about replacing it. Lol. Thanks again and five stars across the board.

PS, the CR1632 takes up a lot less space than the CR2032 and most super markets carry them too making them a good compromise.

Easy to install

This is a great solution for the lack of available smartwatch chips, a simple trim of the RF shield allows it to fit on the motherboard and I don't think it could be any more compact than it is.

Thankful for this product

This worked great in my Tandy 1000 hx. I did not need to cut the shielding as prescribed, because I had an extra IC socket I could layer it over to rise above the shielding. I placed some insulating electrical tape over the shielding, below this adapter, just in case.

I'm running DOS 5, which supported setting the date with a 4 digit year, even though the prompts do not reflect that.

Works Perfectly!

I just finished installing the SmartWatch+ into my Tandy 1000 HX and it works beautifully. My HX had a real-time clock installed years ago but the batteries ran out and they weren't replaceable. The SmartWatch+ uses a standard coin battery for easy replacement ... nice touch! Installing the SmartWatch+ into a Tandy 1000 HX will require you to completely tear down the computer and remove the metal shield covering the motherboard. The hole exposing the BIOS chip will need to be enlarged to accommodate the larger size of the SmartWatch+. The documentation suggests using tin snips but I used a metal nibbler and had the hole enlarged in less than 10 minutes. Here's a tip: Install the SmartWatch+ module into the motherboard first, then install the BIOS chip into the SmartWatch+ BIOS socket. It will take a bit of down-force to get the BIOS chip to seat firmly into the SmartWatch+'s BIOS socket. Here's another tip: When putting your HX back together, test the keyboard BEFORE you put the case cover back on. One of the keyboard ribbon cables wasn't seated properly and I had to tear the HX apart for a second time. It only took me an hour to complete the SmartWatch+ upgrade to my system and that included having to tear down the system a second time for the keyboard SNAFU. Setting the clock for the first time is easy: Issue the DATE and TIME DOS commands and enter the current date/time. Next, type SMWCLOCK C to set the SmartWatch+'s date and time. Then, simply add the command SMWCLOCK S to your AUTOEXEC.BAT startup file to have the date and time set automagically every time you turn your Tandy on. Brilliant!
