What is it?

Agora BLE Buttons is a remote control for a smart home system. When one of the four buttons is pressed it transmits this information in Bluetooth LE advertising for a few seconds and can be received by a smart home controller.

BTHome

BTHome is an energy efficient but flexible BLE format for devices to broadcast their sensor data and button presses. It is a part of Open Home and aims to create smart homes that offer privacy, choice and durability. The protocol is open, well documented and supported out of the box by popular home automation platforms such as Home Assistant.

Hardware

The design is based on Nordic's nRF52805 System on Chip running the Zephyr RTOS. Both hardware and firmware are available from GitHub. It is powered by two AAA batteries and will last about 5 years with an average power consumption of 20 uA.

Home Assistant

Home Assistant has direct support for BTHome devices like this Agora Buttons, but a BLE gateway/proxy must be in range. Usually more than one wall between BLE devices is not recommended. It's possible to increase BLE coverage with ESPHome boards or some Shelly products.
