Control things by touch, even through many thin materials!

This product features Microchip's (really Atmel!) AT42QT1010 capacitive touch and proximity sensor IC. This unique offering allows a designer to integrate the sophisticated touch controller into embedded systems designs for a very low price with the added benefit of very low power draw.

-Operates from 1.8V to 5V DC

-User selectable fast/ low power modes. Fast mode detects touch at 1kHz rate. Slow mode features extremely low quiescent current. Perfect for battery operated devices!

-Active high logic output with on-board pull down resistor. Perfect for Arduino and other microcontroller projects. Output is high for as long as the touch key is being pressed.

-Breadboard friendly with standard .1" male header.

Why did you make it?

Buttons are not always the ideal solution. If you have a project and you are low on room for buttons, or you just want to have a sleek mysterious look, this is the solution for you. The touch controller can detect touch through many thin dielectric materials (wood, plastic, stone, glass, etc.). This means you can have touch control in your project without having to put holes in the enclosure. Perfect for artistic designs, hidden/ secret functions, or items that need to be water or dust tight.

What makes it special?

This product is especially unique because the circuit board can be used as shipped in one piece, or it can be cut along the dotted line so that the user can have the touch key relocated and connected to the controller by a single wire. Additionally, the touch key can be replaced by a variety of other metal items allowing you to turn a variety of objects or surfaces into touch pads.
