Read More…There's a scene in "Empire" where Han and Leia get a little closer while repairing the "Millennial Falcon". Behind them is a little blinking prop, obviously made from classic electronic parts they had back then when they filmed the classic trilogy. This is a homage to that blinking prop in form of a kit, that you have to solder up yourself.
There are so many props that work with a classic blinking scheme, a four stage loop. Probably every prop then was made with a 555 timer, 4017 Johnson counter and to get a bit more oompf: some ULN2003 were added. I always wanted to build a classic prop like that and when I saw this specific prop, I had to whip up a pcb.
The silkscreen features said kissing scene, you don't need to program anything! You get the board, LEDs and all the other parts necessary to make it work. You can add an external clock, make it blink in the speed of your sequencer.
The PCB is 8cm x 10cm or roughly 3inch x 4inch. Please, although I clean them, make sure to not put them in your mouth - I hand soldered them with leaded solder and there might be some flux residue left.
Please take a look at the third picture, this "deadbug" soldering will await you! There sadly wasn't a better option for me to add that 3.5mm socket. The kit contains through-hole parts only, the chips each come with an IC socket.
