What is it?

Yes, this looks like the cute badges made by the UK pirates. They're not compatible though, but they can be friends! Twelve 0805 LEDs of different color are controlled by an Attiny13A in a charlie-plexed arrangement around the face of a sloth.

You can choose between the following options:

• one sloth badge kit
• one fully assembled sloth badge

Why did you make it?

When I saw the lovely bear and fox bearables by pimoroni.com, I bought them in an instant. While waiting for them, I thought about what other animals I'd like to see in that style. Right then I thought of a sloth and a racoon and began with designing. The first step was drawing the sloth in Inkscape, then adding the circuit around it. With lessons learned from importing the Knight Rider designs into EAGLE CAD, the next challenge was programming the sleep mode of the badge. While no animation is running, I didn't want it to lose much power. Proud of the code and design, I shared it on twitter.com and instagram.com, where it received a huge positive resonance. After talking to Paul from pimoroni.com we agreed that it would be okay for me to make a small run.

What makes it special?

This is a one-time thing when all 60 boards that I have ordered are gone, they're gone. So get yourself a blinking badge!

Batteries are not included. This will not be sent with batteries, just buy 2032 batteries or use rechargeables, both voltages (3V and 3.6V) are fine.

Please, although I clean them, make sure to not put them in your mouth - I hand soldered them with leaded solder and there might be some flux residue left.
