This is a MIDI interface for retro gaming and music production. It connects to PC Serial port (COM port running at 38800 baud) with RS232 DB9 connector (for straight pinout cable). It provides 1x1 MIDI I/O on DIN5 as well as USB MIDI Class compliant when connected to other computers.

The main purpose of this device is for DOS games with SoftMPU for external sound modules (such as Roland MT-32) or MIDI production with the famous Voyetra Sequencer Plus Gold 4.11 which supports it natively (you should select vapiTG.com driver). With Voyetra SPG this interface works for input and for output, supports all 16 MIDI channels, CC, clock and custom SysEx messages. It allows you to build a full MIDI production studio running on Book386, Pocket8086 or other vintage PC laptops.

The interface is powered from USB port when connected to PC or miniUSB cable for standalone DIN5 operation.

Package options:

• PCB alone: Default, you source all parts yourself including Teensy 2.0 controller. Find a BOM list in the resource section.

• Complete Electronics kit: Includes PCB and all electronics (with Teensy2.0) - Din5 connectors, optocouplers, headers, resistors, diodes.

• Fully assembled: This is the electronic kit soldered and tested. Also includes miniUSB cable and 6ft RS232 DB9 cable.

Board size and an enclosure choice: Size: 65mmx78mm

Some of you wondered ideas for enclosure selection. I found it much easier to put them in between two acrylic panels cut to the size and connect them with plastic standoffs. I typically use M3 standoff 20mm and 5mm. 20mm goes on top, and has enough room to cover DIN5 sockets, while 5mm goes on the bottom.
