What is it?

This shield lets you control up to 16 hobby servos with your D1 Mini. You can stack up to 64 such shields, by changing the I2C address with the jumpers on the bottom. You can power the servos from 5V on the D1 Mini, or with an external power source, by changing the "power" jumper. This is compatible with Adafruit's servo shields, and works with their libraries.

Why did you make it?

There is no servo shield for the D1 Mini. This is bad, because to build robots you need to control hobby servos.

What makes it special?

It's not particularly special. Just a straightforward breakout for the PCA9685 chip in a form factor that fits nicely on the D1 Mini. It's just convenient.

The boards I'm selling here are prototypes -- they use OSHPark's purple PCBs and they have been all assembled and tested by hand. If there is interest in them, I can make more. I'm selling them at the cost of parts.

A very necessary product and high quality to boot!

This is my first purchase on Tindie and I was not disappointed. The product itself is a necessary one - there are no equivalents that I can find anywhere. I'll be using the product to create a more compact animatronics driver than is possible with the arduinos I've used in the past. The added bonus of the wifi on the esp8266 is interesting too and might allow for simple live performance control. This board really opens up some intriguing possibilities. It fits nicely on top of the d1 minis and is very high quality (much more so than the minis themselves). The board is manufactured at OSHpark (at least this prototype I received is) and so is elegant and high quality. The pins used turned out to be very strong high quality also. This was a good thing as they arrived bent but I was able to fix them. After a quick email exchange the conclusion was the pin rows should be soldered by the customer in future.

In this prototype a trace needs to be cut to switch from esp routed power to external power - external power being a must for most scenarios of use I guess. In the future this will be a jumper I'm told, which will make this board even better.

Shipping was fast and inexpensive and thats important - hate to pay more for shipping than for the board.

This is a quality product, a necessary one in the market and a good, friendly seller.
