The Story: We set out to build a little brother to the wonderful Arduino line of development boards - we were tired of leaving our valuable Arduino's behind in projects, or worse, ripping apart old projects to build new ones! We also felt the Arduino was too big and powerful for many projects where we only needed a few pins, or an SPI or I2C bus. And so the Digispark was born! To us, the best things about the Arduino is the community, the easy of use, and the IDE - by making the Digispark an Arduino compatible development board all of those remain common. Plug it in, power your project with USB or external sources, program it with the Arduino IDE, and easily use existing Arduino code! But with its small size and low cost you can feel free to leave it in your project, give one to a friend, and use them everywhere!
The Specs:
Support for the Arduino IDE 1.0+ (OSX/Win/Linux)
Power via USB or External Source - 5v or 7-35v (automatic selection - 12v or under recommended)
On-board 500ma 5V Regulator
Built-in USB
6 I/O Pins (2 are used for USB only if your program actively communicates over USB, otherwise you can use all 6 even if you are programming via USB)
8k Flash Memory (about 6k after bootloader)
I2C and SPI (vis USI)
PWM on 3 pins (more possible with Software PWM)
ADC on 4 pins
Power LED and Test/Status LED (on Pin1)
Just how small is it? Well it's about the size of a quarter. While the small size made hand soldering prototypes difficult, we find that it is the perfect size to stick in even our smallest projects, but not too small to comfortably handle. Since it uses standard 0.1 in spaced headers it is easy to hookup to anything.
USB On-Board: With the on board USB connector it is also easy to program by either directly plugging it into the computer or, if it is installed in a project, with a super cheap and common USB extension cable. In addition, it is small enough to be left plugged in your computer, use it to run a computer controlled RGB status LED, read a directly attached sensor, or fool your friends by programming it to be a USB keyboard and turn their caps lock on and off randomly, the possibilities are endless!
The Digispark is and will always be open source hardware - it is licensed under CC-BY-SA 3.0 and the schematics, firmware, and anything else you might need to hack, change, or recreate the Digispark are fully released and public!

Note: Some laptop USB ports are too far recessed for the Digispark connector and may require the use of a USB extension cable or hub. Some (generally older) hardware and hubs may have issues with the Digispark, a hub generally solves these issues.

Needs lots more information on the ports.
P4, for example, reads 0 when connected to 5 volts by a 100K, or a 33K resistor. The pin is at 1.9, or 2.1 volts with these resistors. So P2 was read with analogRead(2) and it's value compared to 1.9/2 to solve the inability to do a digitalRead(4). Proper documentation would have saved a lot of time!!

Cute but painful
The Digispark is a great little microcontroller board that can be programmed via USB and that can also act as USB device to interface your own circuits with a computer (examples include a Cheerlights host). In principle being a 'little Arduino' with just fewer pins, at least on OS X they seem to like to act up. At least in my hands and on my systems (OS X Mavericks, on a 2012 iMac and a 2009 Powerbook), uploading a program is a little bit hit or miss, often requiring the reboot of the entire system. So if it works - great. But if it doesn't, they can be a pain in the neck.

We're sorry to hear you had trouble with them on your Macs - other than some issues with USB 3.0 ports - they should work great on a Mac, they were even developed on one! We have tens of thousands of Mac users who don't have any issues like this. Arduino programming for $8.95 in the size of a square inch
Many times, utilizing a full Arduino Uno (or even the Uno's ATMEGA chip, the 328) is overkill for simple projects. The Digispark is a fantastic addition to the Arduino environment for this arena. I've built a simple RGB fader and a status bar using Adafruit's NeoPixel products with great success. I have ordered 3 more to keep me busy over the holidays and can't wait to cook up some fun automated goodness for the office. Thanks to the Digistump team for a brilliant product.

Digispark superuseful
I use it for making my Neon sculptures interactive. A quick mod of the RGB driver to drive 4 channels in PWM and I can control Tech22 Neon Transformers - fading and on/off control. As well as the ability to add interaction by watching for IR signals (IR shield) or other inputs - easily configured. Lets me build all kinds of interactive devices. The relay shield is excellent for controlling mains voltage extras like Xmas tree lights.
Very happy with this product and its price point. The 6 pins are adequate for most of my needs (without the extra memory or I/O pins available using the expansion shields)

Very well design!
So small I could forget it's plug in my computer but even for a small size it punch the power you need. Great product very clever for starting in arduino and not expensive at all and the best is you don't need anything to program it! Awesome!

Lovely little module
The Digispark is an excellent way to use what you already know about developing with the Arduino in projects that require a smaller footprint, or where you want something you can more reasonably make a permanent part of the project. The low cost, integrated USB connection and compact size make the Digispark a great compromise between building a full-blown Arduino board into a project and putting together the individual components necessary to use the Atmega chip raw.
In my case I have picked up a couple Attiny chips, but haven't gotten around to using them because they are a pain to hook up to the programmer and such, but with the Digispark you just install their custom Arduino IDE (which works almost exactly like the standard IDE) and stick the board in a USB port.
