What is the Pocket Koala?

Pocket Koala is a simple pocket sized DMX lighting controller.

It controls 256 DMX channels using 4 sliders (faders). Used for any DMX enabled devices.

Ideal for small shows, live shoots, lighting demonstrations, testing, & troubleshooting.

Why did you make the Pocket Koala?

I wanted a small and powerful DMX controller that I can take with me on locations.

What makes the Pocket Koala special?

Its small size. You can carry it in your pocket. There is no DMX controller this small and can do this much.

Operation

To power the Pocket Koala use a +5VDC wall adapter or a USB battery bank (NOT INCLUDED). USB A to C cable is included.

Slide the power switch to the ON position.

On the OLED display, the left side is the bank number, each bank is 4 DMX channels with a total of 64 banks. The DMX channel range is displayed at the top of the display. Each slider is represented as a box with a top and bottom number. The bottom number is the current value of the slider and the top number is the previous value. For the slider to affect the corresponding DMX channel the slider must first have the bottom (current) value be the same as the top (previous) value. When any slider is moved the bottom number is highlighted to draw your attention to where its being affected.

Buttons

The RIGHT and LEFT buttons increase/decrease the bank (DMX channels) respectively. The GLOBAL button adjusts all 256 DMX channel dim levels. The MENU button brings up the menu items.

Menu

Bring up the menu by pressing the MENU button. Press the MENU button again to exit. The RIGHT button scrolls the selection down and the LEFT button scrolls it up. The GLOBAL button accepts the changes made.

SAVE - Press GLOBAL to save the state of all 256 DMX channels. Every time the Pocket Koala is powered up it will load the last save performed.

Mode NRML- In NORMAL mode each slider affects one DMX channel based on the bank it is on. Brightness values range from 0 to 255.

Mode CCT (Correlated Color Temperature) - In the CCT mode 2 sliders are paired together. This mode is meant for Bi-Colour LED (Hybrid LED) to mix the colour temperature. The right slider will mix 2 DMX channels together (eg. Slider 1 mixes DMX channels 1 & 2. Slider 3 mixes DMX channels 3 & 4 etc...) when the slider is at halfway (50) that means both DMX channels are at full brightness. If the slider is moved at the bottom or at the top only one channel will be at full brightness. Slider 2 is the brightness of the mixture from 0 to 255 like in NRML mode.

Test Mode - In this mode you will be able to set the starting channel and end channel for the Pocket Koala to cycle through the DMX channels. Use slider 1 to set your starting DMX channel and slider 2 to set the end DMX channel.

Press GLOBAL to start the test. Press GLOBAL again to pause the test. Pressing the MENU button exits the Test Mode and returns back to where it was.

INFO - Shows current firmware revision.

Global Dimming

Global menu will allow you to set the brightness of all 256 DMX channels. Press the GLOBAL button and using slider 1 set the dim level. First move the slider all the way to the top (255) then move the slider where you like. Press the GLOBAL button to accept and exit to the main screen. Each time you enter this menu you have to start at 255.

The GLOBAL dimming does not work in CCT mode.

Quick Bank Select

Press and hold the RIGHT button till the BANK is highlighted, use slider 1 to quickly scroll to a desired bank (DMX channel).

RJ45 LEDs

The LED on the left side is the +5V is present . The LED on the right is your DMX transmit LED, letting you know that DMX data is being sent.

Enclosure

3D printed force fit enclosure. Comes in green or orange.

Customization

Do you want your own logo screen at power up? Select the customized splash screen option. Make sure to message me with an image/text you'd like displayed. NOTE: The resolution of the OLED is 128px x 32px.
