• Any JST connectors that you include, but please read this first:

Most LEDs come with 3-pin or 4-pin JST connectors. Some LEDs from AliExpress come with different circular connectors and have a threaded part to keep them locked together. Some WS2813 or WS2815 LEDs come with 3-pin JST even though they could have 4. And unfortunately, there's no standard for whether an LED strip's input side should have a male or female connector. HOWEVER, every LED product I've ever bought comes with an extra connector that will plug in to the input side, which you can solder on to the PCB if you choose not to include any connectors in your order. If you'd rather not solder, please order this kit after your LEDs have arrived, and you can see exactly what you need. If you have any questions, please reach out at info@diod.design.

If you choose to have it fully assembled, it will be ready to go out of the box. JST connectors will be soldered on and hot glued.

What is it?

With this kit, you'll be able to easily input audio, through Aux or Mic, and drive up to 3 LED strips.

Why did you make it?

I designed this PCB because making LEDs react to music is a common project undertaken by many makers. However, it often leaves you with a mess of wires sticking out of a breadboard, and often times does not include audio input through an Aux jack (which is required for high quality music-visualizers). This PCB can be applied to a wide variety of LED projects, both music-reactive and non-music-reactive. It also gives the Teensy wireless controls through an ESP-32 which is connected to the Teensy through TX1/RX1 ports.

What makes it special?

The Teensy's Audio Adapter is an extremely powerful piece of hardware that can perform the time-intensive FFT function, leaving the Teensy to perform additional analytics with FFT data and drive LEDs. However, the audio adapter does not make it very easy to hook up an Aux Jack as an input. But this board fixes that.

As seen in our pictures, this PCB includes 4 header pins below the 4 through-holes on the audio adapter, allowing those to connect to the PCB and the AUX jack that is soldered on.

POWER WARNING

When driving large amounts of LEDs (over 300), power the LEDs separately so all of the power doesn't go through the PCB. A "Barrel Jack Splitter" will enable you to power the PCB and the LED strip separately. If you're driving more than 300 LEDs at full brightness, feel the cables to make sure they aren't heating up.
