What is it?

This is a breakout board for the Sinclair ZX81. It allows you to quickly prototype projects for the ZX81. Dupont cables can be used to connect the ZX81 breakout baord to your project on breadboard for example. You can choose how the breakout board is to be connected to the ZX81, soldered or edge connector, and which headers, male or female, are soldered to the PCB giving you full control how you want your breakout board to be. The breakout header footprint is for 2.54mm pitch and these headers are available from every component vendor, including EBay.

The breakout board is also compatible with Timex 1000 and 1500 computers.

Why did you make it?

Soldering wires directly to a ZX81 edge connector, as a breakout method, is brittle and requires re-soldering every-now-and-again; slowing down your project prototyping. This breakout board allows a more robust method of breaking out for your project prototypes.

What makes it special?

Breakout boards have not been available for the ZX81 for many years. These are available now since tidy prototypes can give you a better proof of concept prototype, and a project needs a robust way of interfacing with the ZX81.
