Biodata Sonification

What is it?

Arduino Uno Shield Psychogalvanometer. Using a 555 timer set as an astable multivibrator, galvanic conductance is measured between two probes as a pulse width modulated signal. Build this solderable kit with the included circuit board and parts. Attach this Shield to your own Arduino Uno, and upload the Biodata code using the Arduino IDE. Attach to synthesizers using MIDI or USB-Serial to make music.

Why did you make it?

To translate invisible fluctuations in organic systems into musical data (MIDI). Attach this Biodata Sonification system to your philodendron or your friends!

What makes it special?

By attaching electrodes to the leaves of a plant, or human skin, fluctuations in galvanic conductance will produce MIDI notes. MIDI notes are transmitted on Channel 1, with a maximum of 5 note polyphony (matching the LEDs). A control message is transmitted on CC 80, which is also presented as a 'Control Voltage' output via 3.5mm jack for connection to modular synthesizers and equipment.
