What is it?

This is a PCB for my AY/YM sound card for the RC2014. It's pretty easy to construct using only through hole parts, and YM chips are fairly easy to obtain on eBay. This is the board only, although I have made two of the less widely available components addable as optional extras.

The Bill of Materials along with schematic, gerbers and example programs are available in the GitHub repository.

Why did you make it?

The YM2149 is one of my favourite sound ICs. Used in the Atari ST and Spectrum 128 it has very distinctive sound and a wide catalogue of available music. Bring your RC2014 to life!

What makes it special?

Play music from the wide catalogue of Spectrum 128 music on your RC2014, compose your own music, or add sound effects to a game!

What's different from the previous red version in your video?

Additional jumper JP7 for chip active only when A4 is low
Additional space around YM socket to accommodate an Aries ZIF socket (3M ZIF's pins are too thick for the holes)
Larger capacitor footprints
Increased annular ring size for easier soldering
Cooler silk screen fonts ;)

Excellent quality & design.

Finally got around to building it (Rev3, and now enjoying 'retro sounds'. Worked first time! As usual for Ed's work, good quality PCB and excellently supported in documentation and software.

High quality PCB. Worked perfectly on first try.

Added this module to my RC2014 running CP/M. I was able to play PTX sounds file with no trouble. PCB is well labeled and of good quality. Excellent build instructions provided.
