For years, I used an old ipod dock as my bedside clock. It drifted like crazy, and was always too dim or too bright and never in-between. In response, I built this clock. I wanted something that didn't drift, was easy on the eyes, had nice big displays, and supported 24 hour time.

The auto-brightness can be user configured such that it dims to off, is always at maximum brightness, and anything inbetween. Default setting is (10, 255).

Notice

This device REQUIRES an internet connection to function. This is by design. It pulls the time from the network. There is no manual way to set this. Once it has pulled the network time, the network could be disconnected, but it will drift about as much as a mechanical watch. Typically one or two seconds per day.

Setup

Upon first boot, and when there is no internet connection available, the clock will host a wireless access point with SSID NiceClock and password MinesBigger. This is printed on the rear of the clock's PCB. In this state, it hosts a webpage on 192.168.4.1 which allows you to configure the timezone, network connection, and the minimum/maximum brightness. Pressing the boot button on the rear of the clock will display the configured IP address instead of the time.
