Read More…zoe is a 802.15.4/Zigbee development board designed to be used alongside a Raspberry Pi. It follows the Raspberry Pi HAT Mechanical specification but it does not have the ID EEPROM therefore it is not technically a HAT.
The E18-MS1PA Zigbee module used incorporates the CC2530 wireless microcontroller with the CC2592 Range Extender (PA+LNA). This is a fairly common and mature chip combo, famously used by Zigbee2mqtt and other open-source Zigbee systems.
While a TagConnect to CC-Debugger footprint is included, no external programmer is required for flashing the Zigbee module thanks to flash-cc2531, a bitbanged implementation of the Chipcon programming protocol.
Three versions of zoe, in partial kit format, are available on the Electrolama Tindie Store. A comparison table for the versions listed:
Radio | RTC | PoE | |
---|---|---|---|
zoe-lite (THIS LISTING) | ✔️ | ❌ | ❌ |
zoe-RTC | ✔️ | ✔️ | ❌ |
zoe-PoE | ✔️ | ✔️ | ✔️ |
If you're interested in another version, please follow this link.
Each order contains a PCB with all SMD components soldered and a kit of through-hole parts (connectors) that will require some soldering. Please see listing photos or refer to the documentation for details.
Please keep in mind that zoe is a general purpose development board and as such, it is shipped "blank" with no code on the wireless microcontroller. You will need to program it before it does anything meaningful. Given the application dependent nature of this board, limited after-sales support can be provided (For example: we can help you program this board but can't fix your Zigbee network range issues or offer specific software support).
Documentation and a "User Manual" for zoe can be found on the project page and design files in the Github repository.
zoe is designed by Electrolama / Omer Kilic and licensed under the Solderpad Hardware License 2.0.
This kit is designed to allow Product developers to evaluate electronic components, circuitry, or software associated with the kit to determine whether to incorporate such items in a finished product and Software developers to write software applications for use with the end product. This kit is not a finished product and when assembled may not be resold or otherwise marketed unless all required FCC (or any other local authority) equipment authorizations are first obtained. Operation is subject to the condition that this product not cause harmful interference to licensed radio stations and that this product accept harmful interference.
