What is it?

SD2IEC is a floppy drive emulator for Commodore 64. Copy C64 games and programs to SD card on your PC. Put the SD card in SD2IEC floppy emulator and load games and programs on your C64. Plug the DIN connector to SERIAL port of your C64.

How to power the emulator?

There are 2 ways to power your SD2IEC module: CASSETTE port powered mode: plug the SD2IEC floppy emulator to CASSETTE port of your C64. This is the most convenient powering solution. No external power adapter and no cables needed. USB powered mode: there is a micro USB connector on SD2IEC to power the module. You can use any phone charger or power bank to power the SD2IEC module. Do NOT use both powering modes simultaneously! If SD2IEC is plugged to CASSETTE port, do NOT plug the USB cable. I designed the module to make it difficult to plug the USB cable in when the module is on the CASSETTE port. If you use the USB powered mode the CASSETTE port is available for other devices.

How to load a program?

Format a SD card to FAT32 file system on your PC. You may use any SD card up to 32GB but old 1-2GB SD cards are great. C64 programs are small in size. Do NOT make directories on SD card! Copy fb64 to the root. Download and copy C64 programs (games) to root. Usually *.D64 files. For example here you can download a chess game: cc65.d64 So now you have 2 files on your SD card in the root: fb64 and cc65.d64 Put the SD card to SD2IEC module, connect to your C64 and turn on the computer. You can find the files in the documentation.

Type: LOAD "FB64",8

After the program loaded type: RUN

Use arrow keys to select the program you want to run.

DIP switch settings

8 is the default address of your SD2IEC but you can change it in range of 8..11 with DIP switch DIP switch address selection: OFF OFF = address 8 OFF ON = address 9 ON OFF = address 10 ON ON = address 11

If you change the address use the proper address: LOAD "FB",address

Notes

Most of the programs (games) will run from SD2IEC but there is no Floppy emulator which is 100% compatible with the real Commodore Floppy drives! Not every game will work from SD2IEC emulator!
