What is it?

This is a board that will let you connect a PS2 mouse (or USB mouse if it supports the PS2 protocol) to an Olivetti Prodest PC1 computer from 1987.

It uses the powerful Ultimate Amiga PS/2 Wheel Mouse Controller firmware completely unchanged.

Why did you make it?

Many owners of the Olivetti PC1 computer no longer possess the original PC1 mouse. It either got lost or broken many years ago. I built this board so we can use a more modern mouse (PS2 or USB with PS2 protocol support) as a replacement for the lost/broken one on our loved Olivetti PC1.

What makes it special?

• Uses the powerful Ultimate Amiga PS/2 Wheel Mouse Controller firmware completely unchanged
• Has the correct mouse pinout for the PC1 (on the D-Sub connector)
• It's extremely compact and gets power from the Olivetti PC1
• Requires only 4 parts (PIC 16F628A, 100nF capacitor, 9 pin D-Sub connector, PS2 or USB connector)

What you'll get

There are 3 product options:

• PCB Only: you will get a bare PCB. It's up to you to source the components and solder them to the PCB. You will also have to program the PIC micro-controller with the firmware.
• Fully assembled board with PS2 socket: you will get a fully populated and ready to use board. Just connect it to a PS2 mouse and to the PC1 and enjoy.
• Fully assembled board with USB socket: you will get a fully populated and ready to use board. Just connect it to a USB mouse supporting the PS2 protocol and to the PC1 and enjoy.

Flashing the PIC firmware

Get the source code file from Aminet and extract it. Inside you'll find a file named ps2m_5button.hex. This is the file you should write to the PIC. Be aware that you will also need to properly set the PIC fuses for the firmware to run when flashing the PIC. Details on how to set them can be found on the documentation link.
