With the available "Dim" software, it also supports a simple language to define animations and a web-based simple IDE to write the software. The language features error checking and messages to make it easier to write functional code. See the associated video for examples of what it can do.
I created this controller and accompanying software because I got tired of writing custom C++ software whenever I wanted to do a small project; this will let me do many projects with simple code.
Choose the base board to control 8 channels. It comes with 15-pin headers to connect it to the ESP-32.
Add the expansion board option to control 16 channels. The expansion board attaches to the back of the main board with the supplied headers.
Add the ESP-32 microcontroller option to get the controller with the Dim software that supports authoring animations from a web browser. If you wish to use your own ESP-32, note that it must be the version with the 30-pin header; this board will not work with the ESP-32 modules that have more pins.
ESP32 pins that are used are as follows:
Main board: 23, 22, 21, 19, 18, 5, 4, 2 Expansion board: 13, 12, 32, 33, 25, 26, 27, 14
If you use the expansion board you will need to provide power to both boards.
Note that this board provides whatever voltage you use directly to the ESP32. Most ESP boards use AMS1117 voltage regulators, but those are available with widely different voltage handling. I have run boards with 12 volts but I have other boards that die quickly with 12 volts. The safest choice is 5v.
If you want to use a higher voltage please contact me. The board can be modified to add in a 5v regulator.
