The JAMMA Capture Buddy is an easy-to-use add-on that sits in between a JAMMA PCB and your arcade cabinet / supergun. It provides VGA-level video and 3.5mm audio outputs that work without disrupting your existing JAMMA setup at all!

Sync Switch

The switch present on the board is for switching between different sync levels, which may be necessary depending on your setup!

The upward position is for devices expecting TTL-level sync, such as some VGA monitors which take CSYNC on the HSYNC pin, some Extron gear, and Datapath capture cards.

The downward position is for devices expecting composite-level sync (with 75-ohm termination) such as televisions and some capture cards.

If you're not sure which to use, try composite-level sync first! TTL-level output voltages can potentially fry CSYNC devices!

Note: Upward and downward refer to how the switch is seen in the pictures above.

Video Output

The RGB video and sync signals from the JAMMA PCB are safely buffered and attenuated to VGA levels using a THS7374, ensuring that you can connect the VGA output to any 75-ohm terminated monitor or television without affecting the original signal to the arcade cabinet or supergun. Combined sync is present on the HSYNC pin of the VGA connector.

If video level adjustment is necessary, three potentiometers are present on the PCB for adjusting the Red, Green and Blue video levels. These only work on the VGA output, and do not affect the original signal at all.

You can use the VGA output either to drive a second monitor, or to go to a capture card if you wish to stream or record your arcade gameplay!

Audio Output

The audio from the JAMMA PCB is safely attenuated to line-level using the same circuit present on the Sanwa VC-J, ensuring that the audio from the board isn't disrupted.

The volume adjustment uses a high-quality A-taper potentiometer to ensure smooth audio level adjustment.

Audio is output on both the left and right channels of the 3.5mm audio jack. It is a line-level output, so if you wish to use headphones or earbuds, make sure they're very easy to drive.

The input tap allows you to wire additional buttons to both Player 1 and Player 2. To be honest, I mostly designed this feature in for myself (since I do use one of these), and it will likely be removed from future versions of this device.
