QuuLink is an accessory kit for the Raspberry Pi that allows you to extend the link length between your Pi and the Pi’s camera to approximately 20 meters with a standard, inexpensive Ethernet cable. It's compatible to all Raspberry Pi models on the market. However, only the 5MP camera, version 1.3, is currently supported by the QuuLink.
The camera of the Raspberry Pi connects to the Pi’s processor via the so called MIPI D-PHY CSI protocol. Initially this protocol was developed as an internal interface between application processor and camera sensor within mobile phones or tablets. Due to the tight timing constrains of the D-PHY protocol, the flight time for signals across the interconnection between processor and camera may not exceed 2 nanoseconds. That limits practical distances with passive cables to about 25 to 30cm and explains why the Pi’s camera cable is usually below 20cm. We have developed an active solution for transporting D-PHY signals as they’re generated by the camera module of the Raspberry Pi. With our active cable solution, we emulate the signal handling of a standard MIPI D-PHY transmitter and MIPI D-PHY receiver. That allows us to offer a distance extension to 20m for now. Future projects may increase this link distance up to 50m. Alternatively, it is also possible to trade in link distance for extremely small cable diameter. With such long link distances made available for high-resolution cameras, complete new applications are possible with our QuuLink technology. These could be for example high-resolution machine vision cameras or high-resolution surveillance systems.
Requirements
We strongly recommend a CAT-7 Network Cable with a wire gauge of at least AWG26 or thicker (e.g. AWG24). Recommended cables can be found on Amazon.
Dimensions
The fully assembled Tx board is approximately 45mm x 25mm x 27mm sized.
The Rx board has a dimension of 45mm x 25mm x 17mm.
Shipping
We offer wold-wide shipping. However, please be aware if your country is not part of the European Union you need to be responsible for customs by yourself. Shipping will be covered by an insurance.
All boards are fully tested before shipping!
Troubleshooting
In some cases we experienced purple flickering when using the QuuLink. Usually that may be caused by RF-interferences with the on-board WiFi module of the Pi. Simply turning off the Wifi on your Raspberry Pi before operating the QuuLink will fix the problem.
