What is it?

USB -VBlock Blocks USB power over the USB cable unless your want it! while still letting data through. A Switch allow you to choice when to pass power to the connected device. the two main reasons to use the USB -VBlock are:

• it prevents drawing too much power from your computers USB ports to the connected device (3d printer, octoprint, CNC, Raspberry Pie, ETC.)

• it prevents power back feeding from your connected device to your PC. If too much power or the wrong voltage is back fed through the cable it could ruin the USB port or the whole computer.

USB-Vblock is wrapped in shrink tubing to protect from accidental voltage short and communication issues. A link to a 3d printable Case on Printables.com

Why did you make it?

I made this for the same reasons listed above.

1) While having my 3d printer connected via USB the printer screen would always stay on even when I power off the printer's main power switch.

2) While running octoprint it can draw too much power from the usb causing issues on the Raspberry Pi.

3) Some microcontroller projects require higher voltages or external power sources, but I still need serial outputs for debugging. this prevents the voltage from back feeding into my pc. (injecting voltage to a PC's USB ports from an external source isn't a good idea)

What makes it special?

You choose when you want power and when you don't! with a switch on the board. Their are other ways to prevent power over the cable, cutting the V+ lead or using tape, but sometimes you still want it. With the USB-VBlock you are the Power GODS! turn it off an on, at will, when you need it!
