Connect ESP8266 WiFi module directly to 5V FTDI adapter and a breadboard.

ESP8266 is a very cheap serial to WiFi module running on 3.3V With this adapter you can connect the module to 5V FTDI adapter directly, just connect, open COM terminal and you can type AT commands. That's it, it's great for beginners who want to explore this WiFi module or simply to test if the module is working without worrying about wiring or voltage levels. The adapter has 3.3V regulator on board providing up to 800mA for the module. Also the communication is level shifted to 3.3V so it's safe to connect the module to 5V FTDI adapter. The chip_enabled is already pulled up and it also has a reset button on top. Just plug and play. If your FTDI adapter has option between 5V and 3.3V choose 5V.

The adapter can also be plugged into a breadboard, all pins are clearly marked, make sure you use 3.3V logic level when playing with GPIO. The adapter comes with optional ESP8266 module or FT232RL FTDI adapter.

You can use this adapter to connect the module to the 5V Arduino too. Connect VCC to Arduino 5V, GND to Arduino GND, to Arduino Pin3 to use it with software serial library. Don't worry about voltage logic levels.

Great and compact little board!

When I first saw this product I knew I needed to try it out, and I am glad I did.
Once I added a separate switch for enabling "Programming Mode" these beauties really show their value.

Originally, I built my own little board to program and for use with a DHT temp/humidity monitor and I knew there had to be another way.
That's where these came into my collection, and with the accompanying FTDI boards they make a great pair.

I wish there was some more documentation, but the other reviewers seemed to fill in some of the gaps they I needed to know.

I will order these gain, should I need something like these again.

Works Perfectly

Great customer service, they helped me out when I messed up my order. Packaged and shipped promptly, no complaints. This handy adapter makes using an ESP8266 a breeze! Everything you need: breadboard friendly pin-out, regulated 3.3 V power, reset button for putting the ESP8266 in programming mode. Connect GND to GPIO 0, press reset, then send. Easy!

Very convenient adaptor

I just aquired the "ESP8266 FTDI and breadboard adapter with 3.3V reg." together with an FTDI-adaptor. So now I am up and running with the ESP8266,
Thanks to that adaptor, I avoid soldering ( an own adaptor) and saved a lot fuzz with wires, components and bad conncetions on the breadboard, I can concentrate on the in less then a weel it arrived from USA to Madrid, Spain. I asked for some additional info ( ie. internal diagram) and recieved it promptly. so at least in my case I recieved excellent support.

Nice set of tools for working with the ESP8266

I bought the set of all three boards - breadboard adapter, FTDI and ESP8266, so I had the breadboard adapter made with female pins for the FTDI port to match. Everything arrived quickly in separate anti-static bags inside a nice little box.

The combination works very well on my Mac; I plugged it onto a mini-B USB cable and was immediately able to connect to the ESP. The only issue I've found was that the FTDI adapter isn't happy on my Linux machines, likely a driver problem.

This kit makes for a handy way to play around with the ESP8266 or incorporate it into a breadboard; it's also a reasonably convenient setup for re-flashing, you just need to add a jumper to hold GPIO0 low (to ground) while hitting reset in order to put the chip in programming mode.
