Wise Clock 4 is a standalone clock. It works by itself, right out of the box, and it does not require a computer.

This easily hackable geeky clock shows a lot more than time. Its main function is to display user-editable quotations retrieved from SD card (like those used in photo cameras). Another catchy function is to show a personalized message (e.g. "Happy birthday John"), which would make it a great gift. In addition, Wise Clock 4 can show the time in Pong mode, Pacman mode, dual analog, chronometer, timer etc. It can also display the date, including the day of the week, and the temperature.

The user can select features (display mode, settings, apps, scrolling speed, brightness etc) through an intuitive menu system driven by 3 buttons.

Compared to version 3, Wise Clock 4 adds hardware support for modules with XBee footprint, including BTBee, GPSBee, WiFly.

Some technical details:

• uses ATmega1284P microcontroller; user-programmable through a 6-pin FTDI cable (or breakout);

• uses extremely accurate (+/- 2 minutes per year), temperature-compensated, real time clock chip DS3231;

• multi-color (red, green, orange) display with 32x16 LEDs;

• compatible and programmable with the Arduino IDE.

The package includes:

• the fully assembled Wise Clock 4 shown in the first photo (enclosure consists of two 3/16" clear laser-cut acrylic);

• one SD card with all required files on it (contains about 150 book-pages of quotations);

• one USB power cable, 1.5m (5ft) long.
