It has six(6) control pins for the multiplexer, four(4) to select which pin to access (S0, S1, S2, S3), one(1) for the signal pin, and one(1) for the enable pin. It has two pins for power: input(5v) and ground. It also has two JTAG, 10 pin headers for daisy-chaining these boards together.
The four control pins correspond to digits in a binary number, which corresponds to which input pin is selected (0000 for pin 0, 1111 for pin 16)
The 10-pin header connects to the following pins; {S0,S1,S2,S3,signal,5v,gnd}. If you choose to get multiple boards (A,B,C,D...) you can use 10 pin ribbon cables to connect A to B, B to C, C to D, etc. This is gives you the advantage of using the same set of control pins to control all your board, and then you can pull the enable pin low on only the board that you want to read a signal from.
A great feature of this board is it ability for staircase stacking. These boards have holes for mounting standoffs in such a way which allows for these boards to form a stacking staircase. This is great for projects with lots of inputs. If you choose to get 16 boards, you can stack 16 together in a staircase, and then use the 17th board as an output board to select which of the 16 boards to access, using the enable pins, which gives you a total of 256 inputs, using 8 selection pins.
I built this board for converting a church organ from electronic tube synthesizer to digital synthesizer. For this project I needed 230 inputs, for the many keys, switches and foot-pedals on the organ. These boards provide screw terminals which makes for easy connection to the many connections that need to be made to the organ keys. The stackable design makes the boards compact and easy to mount inside the organ cabinet. These boards are easy to connect together with the daisey-chaining, and can be controlled easily and simply using the control pins. These board is great for MIDI controllers / synthesizer with lots of inputs, could also be used for any project which needs many inputs, such as an interactive art / visual installation, or a hydroponic farm.
