This is a big 80x60mm (3.15x2.36") RGB Seven Segment display with lots of possibilities and simple connections. By using WS2812B LED lights, only one line and a microcontroller can drive as many LEDs as memory allow (from 1 LED to thousands) in smooth animations and beautiful patterns.

This seven segments is in fact eight individually addressable LEDs, like a strip of eight LEDs. It is possible to chain other segments to write long numbers, just change the strip length in your code. The LEDs are very bright, much more than can be seen on picture.

An Arduino example using the Adafruit library to write numbers from 0 to 9 in different colors is available for download. Others libraries like OctoWS2811 or light_ws2812 can be used.

If you have never used this kind of LED please these documents by Sparkfun and Adafruit before buying.

I must warn that this is a handmade product, build in very small quantity so availability will be limited. The product may present minor defects (air bubbles or small dust in layers, color and size not uniform) but is well crafted and beautiful. The circuit at the bottom is mounted with strong two sided tape, so it is possible with some care to change a dead LED if necessary or make your own upgrade.

The Seven Segment should be powered by 5 volts (4 to 6 volts should work). At full white brightness the 8 LEDs will consume 400 milliamps, so check your microcontroller 5v output if you want to power the LEDs with it, an external source is advised.
