If you use a breadboard or similar for prototyping for analog circuits, or micro controller circuits like Arduino there will always be that time where you need that specific resistance but do not have it to hand, this is where a programmable resistor comes into its own. This unit can be easily programmed from 0R through to 9.999999MR in 1R steps, its easy to dial in the specific value you need within a few seconds.

It is also possible to easily remove the terminal block connector and replace with 4mm Banana Sockets if you need to - there are already holes in the board to accommodate this.

Indispensible tool for those on a budget! Buy TWO.

I bought 2 of these for developing voltage divider settings for Linear LDOs, buck/boost regulators etc.; calculations and simulations just don't seem to get you there without some kind of real-world mockup. I fixed a problem I had within the first 5 minutes of use - it sure beats soldering and desoldering 0603 and smaller components for those of us with older eyes. At the price they are unbeatable; I'm wondering why I didn't buy four.

I'd love to see a 0.1%, 500mW version. I know, I know, it would be more expensive but hey, it would give me a higher level of confidence before going into production.

I recommend it.

The build quality is very good. The precision and the easy operation allow me to use it in the assemblies and to confirm the good functioning of my multimeter. I mainly use values of three contiguous decades to obtain a constructed value equal to the real value. Excellent product, I recommend it.

Exactly the product I wanted and could not find!

I was looking for a decade resistance box but wanted a small unit that was easier to work with around smaller boards and was easy to store. I also didn't really want to put one together myself, just wanted to get to work. This unit is perfect, it's small, nicely constructed and does just what it's supposed to.

Very nice item, works well.

I recently purchased this item and I am very pleased with it. I did not want to have to build one myself and now I won't need to.
Arrived timely and well packed and works as described. I have added plastic feet in the corner holes to allow a clearance underneath,
preventing the possibility of shorting the contacts on the underside. I would consider future purchases, perhaps with a higher mW capacity.
Altogether an item of excellent quality.

Great Idea & High Quality Construction Decade Resistor

I was about to build or buy a resistor decade/substitution box when I came across Gerry's website, and I was impressed by his 7 Decade solution. I bought one and it was shipped safely to me in the US. You can't find better quality, don't go for the recent Chinese knockoffs, Gerry's is the original and the price is quite reasonable for such a good product. Just add four standoffs as legs, or box it up in a 3D printed box and you're ready to go.

Great tool!

I love the idea to create a decade this way, very easy to use.
Since it does not have switches it will not have switch contact problems developing with time.
Also, good quality components, keeps the 1% precision throughout the whole range.

Good bang for the bucks

I bought this Resistor Decade a while ago and so far used it when testing out a RC low pass filter and also for determining the current limiting resistor for a LED to get just the right amount of light at 3.3 volts.

Using standard 0.1" jumpers instead of thumbwheel- or rotary switches to get the cost down is a really good idea. I wish I got that idea myself :)

If pressed to come up with some bad things about it I can only think about two really minor improvements: Use gold plated headers and re-arrange the resistors at the bottom a bit so you could fit "self adhesive rubber bumpers" on the bottom to get it up from the desk. (My desk is usually filled with solder blobs and cut component leads)

So far the contact resistance with the tin plating is perfectly fine, but I've always had a distrust of anything non-gold when it comes to contacts.

But I'm very happy with my unit and would give a 100% recommendation to get one to anyone who asks me about it.
