What is PiDetect?

PiDetect is a framework that can run on different Linux hardware, including RasberryPI (as sold in this shop), thus making it extremely versatile and portable. The Lite version requires internet connection and runs mostly on any system, while full power CoinDetector version can only run on Linux-based high-end systems, possibly equipped with NVIDIA GPU; however a version for RaspberryPi 4 can run CPU-only without any need for internet access, making the system fully independent. The AI will perform the following actions:

• Listen for movement through a PIR Sensor (7mt range, customizable) or wait for a command.
• Once movement is caught or a command issued, take a picture.
• The PiBird module will analyze if the picture from the camera is a bird included in the training dataset (almost 1000 species) classify it and estimate the probability.
• The PiCoin module will analyze if the picture from the camera is a 2€ Coin included in the training dataset (400 coins) detect it with a bounding box and estimate the probability. The AI will exclude or assign a score to the following coins, depending on user parameters:
• • Dirty, ruined or fake coins: suited for application in which you have to filter these coins. Only back-facing coins are filtered.
• • Rare coins, historical coins, mint errors: suited for application in which you have to spot these coins for their commercial value. Only back-facing coins are spotted.
• • Front-facing coins or other kind of coins: suited for application in which you have to spot these coins.
• • Common or commemorative coins: suited for application in which you have to detect these coins. Only back-facing coins are detected.
• Send the classified picture to an Instagram account to post the photo with a caption or push it through an API or a REST request of choice.

Extensions

Two extensions are available up to now:

• InstaVault: protect your login data with a ciphering system working along with the main app (Optional). It uses different layers of encryption and features permanent (auto-login), cyclic (limited number auto-login) and manual (user private key requested as input at each login) mode.
• PiBird Run-on-startup: run the software at each startup with the possibility to change the default parameters (included by Default).

Notes

- No autofocus included for PiBird.

- As a good practice, pictures containing only images should be provided to the AI. If any text is present in the picture, it could be labeled as an Anomaly. If you want to filter it out, you can adjust the maximum-detections parameter to the amount of actual coins in the picture (if known). Else, you could decrease the box-draw-threshold parameter to exclude those weaker text activation while keeping the same amount of max-detections.
