What is it?

NOTE: THIS IS AN UNOFFICIAL DEFCON BADGE AND IS AFFILLIATED WITH BADGELIFE.

After restarting the Hak4Kidz in-person events, I wanted to create another learn to solder badge but with a bit more purpose. The Cicada Invada badge was an evolution from the Cricket Badge. The Cricket Badge is a gag project to let chirp quietly at a friend's house. During the Chicago Hak4Kidz event someone asked, "Why didn't I make it a cicada?" My meek response "I didn't know they were coming."

With some quick rework the Cicada Invada Badge was born. My wife is not a fan of these critters. Mainly cause of their red bug eyes. For her, I added the red LEDs to make our cicada friend look closer to real like.

As a reminder, this is a kit that is not assembled. Tools such as a soldering iron, solder, soldering iron cleaner, wire cutters, isopropyl alcohol (for cleaning) are required to assemble this kit. The badge has a QR code on the back for you to use in order to get the instructions for assembly. That's half the fun!

The circuit includes two red LEDS and a potentiometers for you to fidget away the day changing the speed of the audio output.
