In conjunction with my wife who is the mastermind behind Oisey Bees (an extension of her beekeeping passion into crafty goods) we have put together something to be pretty and light up your holiday.

This glowing ornament is approximately 80mm tall and 60mm wide. The wings of the bees light up with slow color-fade LEDs. The ornament is powered by two AA batteries, and has an on/off switch.

You can purchase the ornament as an easy-to-build kit or fully assembled.

Fully Assembled

Just install 2 AA batteries and turn the switch to the 'Bright' setting.

Kit

The kit will come with a battery holder, a switch, 6 RGB color fade LEDs and 3 100 ohm 0805 resistors. The RGB LEDs get mounted upside down on the back of the board to shine through - orientation of the LEDs is given on the back of the board, just line up the little triangles on the back of the LEDs to match. If your LED only shows red, you've mounted it backwards. All you need is some solder and an iron. It should only take a few minutes to complete.

A neat product.

Follow the assembly instructions as provided. Trying to hot air solder the leds didn't work as well as the provided instructions!

Good kit, it could use a tweak or two

This was my first kit working with such fine SMD parts and also my first kit attaching LEDs upside down! It's an interesting technique but a little challenging

The instructions should include notes about testing the circuit before soldering in the battery holder. Since fixing anything requires removing the battery holder, it's best to find any misplaced parts before needing to unsolder it.

I made some mistakes and ended up reversing two of the LEDs I'd installed, One I was able to correct, but the other ended up having the pad on the LED delaminate, so I wasn't able to reconnect it effectively. I wish the kit had included a spare LED or two to allow for recovery from mistakes like this.

The effects are very nice shining through the PCB and even with one wing out, it will still look good on my holiday shelf.

I'm sorry that it was confusing, I'll update the instructions to be more clear. Did you follow the build instructions at https://github.com/hamster/bee-merry/ ? The paper insert gives an overview but perhaps is not as clear.

As for the extra parts, I usually include a few extras but due to an unexpected number of orders I was running low. I'd be happy to send you some extra LEDs if you would like to message me your address.
