USB-UART converter based on CY7C65213

NOTE: I am retiring this product because I don't think I'm making new stock, but I'm glad to support anyone who would like to build their own, or anyone who has one. The driver situation for the CY7C65213 is also a contributing factor (it doesn't always enumerate as a COM port on Windows anymore). Feel free to contact me on any questions or advice on designing a new version with a different part! Also @sad_electronics on twitter is working on something VERY similar, go support them!

USB-UART converter with a CY7C65213-28PVXI USB-UART Interface IC from Cypress Semiconductor (pin compatible with an FT-232RL). Has a convenient 5V-3V3 selection switch to change the I/O and supply levels for your target system. Pinout directly fits that of the Arduino Nano (shown above) and works great for programming both 3V3 and 5V I/O Arduino boards that don't come with a USB-UART converter. Also great for RasPi/other SBCs where you need a console output and would like USB Type C. Red and green LEDs for TX and RX respectively (no power LED though)

Awesome little board!

Very cute little board that does the job. Comes with a genuine Amphenol Type-C receptacle!
The LED behave a bit weird (not just RX and TX leds as usual) and i haven't found a way to do single wire half-duplex serial yet.
But thats probably just a configuration thing.

The seller took a few days to ship, and after that USPS took forever to get the package to Germany. Reason was probably Coronavirus.
The boards came packaged in five layers: Individual ESD bags, two bubble wrap layers and two cardboard/paper layers. A bit wasteful in my opinion.

Very nice to not need a mini-usb cable anymore :)

Cute board that did me very well

I'm a fan of USB Type C (and even sell a USB2.0 breakout board on my store ;)), and I was in need of more UART adapters. I found this listing, ordered 1 of both Male and Female variants, and was pleased to see that the board has the correct CC1 and CC2 resistors to make it work on any USB-C host!

But one thing that made me write the review, that may have been unintentional, is that the RTS pin on the IC, was broken out to a resistor footprint that was unpopulated (as shown on the product preview photos). For making the programming of ESP32/8266 chips easier, that pin is used to reset the MCU with the correct timing. And having that broken out was a life-saver!

Thank you for what may have been a happy accident, and don't hesitate in buying this board!
