What is it?

A replacement board for a Honeywell or DSC alarm panel which allows you to use wired alarm sensors as binary sensors in ESPHome and HomeAssistant.

Why did you make it?

I had a Honeywell alarm panel and an Eyez-on envisalink to interface with HomeAssistant, but it depended on the cloud, and the Honeywell panel didn't transmit information to the Eyez-on board when a sensor was restored to the non-faulted state. I designed this board to completely replace a Honeywell Vista 20 alarm panel except the following feature:

• Central station monitoring.

What makes it special?

• ESP32 Microcontroller utilizing the WT32-ETH01 Ethernet Module.
• Uses a 40VA 16.5VAC wall transformer with an internal fuse.
• Charges a 12V 7A lead acid battery
• AC power failure detection.
• 8 supervised zones (Expandable on-board to 16). Using 2K ohm end of line resistors.
• 1 Output for a 12V siren. (Employs a P-channel MOSFET, so the battery voltage is switched instead of ground)
• 4 pin JST connector with I2C bus signals and 3.3V
• 8 pin JST connector for future zone expanders.
• 2 12 pin pluggable terminal blocks for zone sensor inputs
• 1 12 pin connector for AC power, AUX power, Siren and Battery connections.
• 3 status LED's show AC power state, siren state, and ESP32 heartbeat
• TVS diodes on all sensor inputs, power, and other external connectors.
• On-board TMP102 Temperature sensor.
• I2C bus repeater on external zone connector
• Monitoring of battery, auxiliary, and siren voltages using the ESP32 ADC.
• PTC fuse protection on the Battery, Auxiliary Power and Siren outputs.
• Each board is tested on a custom designed Automatic Test platform (See sample results).
• Optional XE8 zone expander to increase the number of zones from 8 to 16.
• Optional KPA1 adapter board to allow Honeywell 6139 and 6160 keypads to arm and disarm the alarm.

What you will get if you purchase the SP8 Sensor board kit

1. SP8 controller board.
2. 2 Tact switches to solder in to the board to complete the assembly.
3. 1 12 pin power and signal pluggable connector.
4. 1 12 pin zone sensor connector for zones 1-8.
5. WT32-ESP01 microcontroller board.
6. 8 or 16 2K ohm 1% end of line resistors depending on options ordered.

This is a Kit

The board is completely assembled except for the two tact switches used for EN and BOOT. These will need to be soldered onto the board in order to upload the ESPHome firmware. The reason for shipping the board without these 2 switches is to avoid having to do a costly FCC certification which doesn't make much sense for a low volume product used by Home Automation enthusiasts.

Audience

You'll need some technical knowledge use this effectively. It will require some firmware programming and electrical knowledge to successfully implement. One should have some experience modifying ESPHome yaml files, reading wiring diagrams, using a Windows or Linux command line shell, using serial devices such as the FTDI serial cable, and using the ESPHome tool to program ESPHome devices. If you are not sure how to program firmware into an ESPHome device, please study the documentation on esphome.com and become familiar with it before purchasing a board.
