I used the 54600 series since college, so I can speak from experience that the user interface is very intuitive and are designed for quick navigation. The controls are way more responsive than Tektronix units that costs at least 3 times more. This helps makers to spend more time exploring and less time setting up the measurements.
Two generic 100Mhz probes are included so you can get started with your hobby projects right away.
The function generator in the listing picture is for illustration and obviously not included.
Expansion modules for talking to the computer (software is free), remote control, and additional math functions (FFT, calculus) cost between $60 (RS-232) and $100 (RS-232 + FFT). Let me know if you want to add it.
Call me at 949-682-8145 if you have questions about the unit, adding expansion modules, how to use it or set it up. If your uses are non-commercial, I can consider giving you a discount.
Deep memory oscilloscope (Megazoom) is very useful in troubleshooting difficult design bugs as it allows you to freeze a waveform and zoom in the fine details without recapturing. This is a feature included only in high-end models.
With Megazoom, I zeroed-in the design bug in a student project that took the professor a whole hour and still couldn't find out what's wrong with the circuit (I was the TA in an electronics lab): the problem was that his PLL locks to 2~3x the expected frequency on physiological signal but not on the simulated signal. Turns out they didn't put in a Schmitt trigger so the noise during transition confused the frequency-to-voltage counter, which counts zero-crossings, to think the signal is 2~3x faster when noisy.
Despite it's a discontinued model, 54645A has a very good track record of being problem free (thanks to HP's neat design).
This unit is lightly used, well taken care of, and it comes with a ONE YEAR repair/exchange WARRANTY.
