If you’re like me, it’s really nice to have a compact platform to test out your ideas without any dangling cables. That’s why I made this, a portable Teensy 4.0 breakout board that does it all. I designed this breakout board with a few things in mind. For starters, I wanted it to be highly configurable so I could adapt it suit my project’s requirements. Second, I wanted it to be easy to use and intuitive to speed up the development process. No more messing around with unnecessary wiring, all the essential stuff is contained to the board, so your projects look more simplistic and professional.
There are a few distinct features that set this breakout board from the rest. For starters, NO SOLDERING IS REQUIRED! No tricky surface mount soldering, yet you still have access to all the I/Os. No more frustrating desoldering if you decide you want to use the Teensy for something else!
There’s also a super handy battery charger option that lets you use your Teensy 4.0 off the grid. It incorporates a high efficiency battery charger and a 3.3V buck-boost switching regulator so you can squeeze the last bit of power out of the battery. This option would be perfect for wireless sensor nodes or data collection applications that need to run for a long time without external power.
If you are supplying power through the barrel jack or the VIN pin: If the voltage is below 5.5V, you can bypass the preregulator circuit. Just invert the SMD underneath the power jack labeled "JP12".
If you chose the power management board option, this lets you use 5V devices from a single cell Li-Ion battery. The 5V output has a 500mA current limit, which is shared between devices plugged into the USB Host connector and the 5V_AUX pin.
With the power management board installed, the maximum current that can be drawn from the 3.3V power rails is 1A. Without the battery charger module, the 3.3V rail is regulated through the Teensy and is limited to 250mA.
Holding down the ON/OFF button for 5 seconds will put the Teensy into a very low power state which can help extend battery life. The PRGM button has the same function as the Program button on the Teensy. Pressing either PRGM button will put the Teensy into program mode.
