This board is about exploring the open source side of the FPGAs. We know that there are more powerful FPGAs. We know that the are very amazing software tools that can do a lot of stuff… but they are not open source. So, if you like the freedom too, this board is for you.

Alhambra II is the new version of IceZum Alhambra (or Alhambra I). Main difference is that the FPGA is 4K ( using Open Source toolchain gives you 8K).

Important notice

It is available now but only in Europe, will be available in USA after mid September one month later than originally expected.

I love the Alhambra II + ( Icestudio OR Apio ) !

I love the Alhambra II! In combination with Icestudio and Apio, and the great documentation by FPGA Wars, I have been able to revisit digital hardware design, either with visual blocks or Verilog. The included LEDs and switches are great to test and prototype, and the multiple male headers are great to directly connect external hardware like LEDs, potentiometers or switches - I even controlled a stepper motor already! (in combination with a darlington array).

In the tutorials and example collections for Icestudio I could find the blocks to make use of the more complex components like the UART or the ADC via i2c. I think it would be great if those (especially the latter) could be made more available / apparent in the board website.
