What is it?

A Real Time Clock Shield for Arduino (UNO, MEGA) based on the Swiss Real Time Clock RV-3028-C7. This clock is very accurate, has a countdown, a UNIC counter and an alarm. If you put in a battery it keeps the time when you interrupt the power supply. You can breakout the core part to install it in a device or on a breadboard. A tactile switch lets you check the status of the backup power. Another tactile switch lets you rise an external event to save a timestamp of this moment. There are a lot of other features the clock and the available software library supports. See datasheet and software examples.

Why did you make it?

I want a better clock than the common DS3231 to help all makers with clock projects. Additionally a real shield is missing.

What makes it special?

This is the most accurate clock I could find. It has a factory tuned time accuracy of ±1 ppm @ 25°C. It has a really low power consumption of abaout 40nA @ 3V.

You have different options to handle backup power supply for the RTC:

Standard is to use a coin cell battery with about 200mAh (supports 6 month)

Additional hardware options: - Charger circuit for rechargable coin cells (supports a month) - Ultracap with about 1mAh with tricklecharge via RTC circuit (supports a day)

Addiditonaly battery options: - The non rechargable CR2032 battery (not compatible with the charger circuit!) - The rechargable LIR2032 battery (makes sense with the charger circuit!)

Please take into consideration, that this is a prototype for evaluation. You need an Arduino Board to get it running.
