What is it?

The Irdroid Alarm System is an easy to use Security Alarm System for your Android Smartphone. The Irdroid Alarm System consist of an App for Android and a magnetic door sensor accessory (the Irdroid AlarmBug) that turns your smartphone into an easy to use smart alarm system for Android.

How it works:

The Irdroid Alarm System App for Android is installed in the user’s smartphone and the Irdroid magnetic door sensor accessory (the Irdroid AlarmBug ) connected to the smartphone via the 3.5mm audio jack. Once someone opens the door/window where the system is installed the user gets notified via email and there is also a local notification with great psychological effect on the intruders (“Security Breach , Police are on their way!”)

Why did you make it?

Initially the project was a bit different. A friend of mine contacted me with a request to write a simple JAVA / Android app which will call his number every time someone pulls out the audio jack from his Android phone - The reason - his car was robbed several times and he wanted a simple way to get notified if someone breaks in his car (through the door). He thought that this could be done in Android, using an audio jack / phones hard wired to his car door and yes it was an simple app. I made the app and sent it to him though he never used it :)

A few months ago I had to purchase a alarm system for my office and I had to install it myself to reduce some installation costs. I noted that the magnetic sensor used in my office alarm system is simply an on/off switch / its state depended on whether the magnet is close to the reed relay sensor or away from it. I realized that I can easily use these magnetic sensors in Android via the AOSP 3.5mm headset specification and that is how this project started.

Made this for Fun and wanted to share how it works, how it was made and also to release its source code as Open Source Software :)
