Read More…The Irdroid-Rpi is a open source hardware (OSHW) infrared transceiver HAT for Raspberry Pi. The module will allow you to turn your Raspberry Pi into a fully functional Infrared Remote Control, thanks to the LIRC (Linux Infrared Remote control Open Source Software Package). The module is compatible with the Lirc-Rpi GPIO driver, part of the LIRC package, and it will allow you to use it out-of-the-box on Raspbian with minor configuration.
Its simple, I am passionate about infrared, I am the founder of Irdroid (Initially Infrared remote control Apps and modules for Android). I like to share knowledge, everything that I know I have learned from user's that share on the Internet. That is why I have decided to make this project also Open Source Hardware and share my knowledge with you. Thanks goes to Leon Anavi (anavi.org) who inspired me for doing a Raspberry Pi Infrared module.
We have made this Raspberry Pi HAT for existing Raspberry Pi users. For Raspberry Pi owners who have projects that need Infrared connectivity and also for such that just want to make something useful and ease their life, using their Raspberry Pi and the Irdroid-Rpi Infrared Transceiver HAT. We made it Open Source Hardware (to allow the user to customize, add additional features, change or start selling the same or similar infrared module) .
Irdroid-Rpi is fully compatible with Raspbian GNU/Linux distribution. Below are links to the open source hardware design and production files:
We offer a shipping for the Irdroid-Rpi module via a REGISTERED AIRMAIL service. This service includes a tracking number for the shipment, and it is the lowest cost available. The packages are released upon signature and that is why this service is more secure than the regular mail. We ship the orders within three working days
After we dispatch your item we will email you the tracking number for your reference.
These are the approximate delivery times:
The delivery times above are approximate and depend on the actual carrier.
We pack every product that we produce in a individual carton box for extra safety during the transportation by Airmail. Our carton boxes are environmental friendly, we do not use any INK for branding the boxes. We use thermal transfer paper for labeling. When our shipper prepares the packages he also adds extra envelope with air bubbles in order to further protect the goods. Prices are exclusive of local taxes and import duties.
Below is a video showing a configuration where the Irdroid-Rpi is attached to a raspbery Pi model B+ and my smartphone is running the FREE Lirc client called "Amote" that connect to the Raspberry Pi Lirc daemon. You can make custom remote UIs using the Amote. Amote also will allow you to obtain a list of the existing LIRC remotes, configured in the Raspberry Pi. Plenty of possibilities are available with this free Application.
Irdroid-Rpi now has a DT Overlay support via the on-board eeprom that now ships with every board. Once attached to a Raspberry Pi, the Irdroid-Rpi Hat will be recognized automatically, it will set the board inputs and outputs, and it will load the appropriate Kernel LIRC-RPI drivers. This feature improoves user experience and it provides plug-n-play support for the Product. The user will only have to install lircd (if not shipped by default with the distribution used).
The Irdroid-Rpi board details such as Vendor and Product IDs are available in
/proc/device-tree/hat
To query Product & Vendor use:

The lirc-rpi module will be loaded at boot time, then you can start using Irdroid-Rpi with lirc . The lirc device will be available at /dev/lirc0 . The driver to be used with lirc is the “Default” driver.
For all the customers that have previous versions of Irdroid-Rpi, without EEPROM, we provide a free eeprom that we can ship upon request. Please send us request to info at irdroid dot com so that you can upgrade your board.
