Read More…The ZTO-80 SBC is a fully customizable Z80 SBC with loads of features, including two serial channels, two PIO channels, a CTC, and support for BASIC. It is unique when compared to many other Z80 SBCs due to the fact that it includes no microcontrollers or PLDs for glue logic, using only discrete components. It also contains pins to give the user access to nearly every useful signal on the board.
It is the perfect environment for getting started with the Z80, both in hardware and software. Because the ROM can be programmed by the user, you can write and test your own software for a wide range of peripherals which can be attached to the SBC. You can even design your own peripherals to connect to it. A BASIC interpreter can be programmed to the ROM to allow the use of a high level programming environment.
The ZTO-80 expansion bus header provides a standard interface for accessing many of the pins of the Z80 CPU, such as the address and data buses. By soldering a pin socket to the expansion bus, it can be used to attach a standard ZTO-80 module, allowing nearly infinite possibilities for customization.
The full documentation for the SBC, including assembly instructions and a parts list, can be found in the Github repository or in the "Specs and Docs" section of this page.
Important Note: One pin header jumper is required for operation. It is used to connect the clock to the system. Jumpers are also used to configure certain features, such as if the serial ports will provide power.
