Lights, math, AWESOME

I like this Fibonacci 256 LED disc more than I expected when I ordered it.
The LED layout is unexpected at first, but lets you make fascinating patterns.
I got mine with the acrylic diffuser on top and it's spent months attached to my computer for art and laptop status display purposes.
Soon I will move it to my 10A 5V power brick so the neighbors will also be able to see the fun I'm having.
For especially cool patterns you will want to read the documentation on the creator's website.
The Fibonacci spiral allows for nifty patterns out of the box, and the PixelBlaze XY map lets you treat the disc like a grid.
Seriously, buy some of these Fibonacci spirals!

Mesmerizing work of art

This piece is wonderful. The seller was responsive, shipping it by next day and I recieved it within two days of purchase, well packaged and exactly as described. Though it will work with just about any code for driving WS281x pixels. I found the Fibonacci branch of FastLED webserver produces some of the best effects. Installation is very straightforward and works on multiple controllers. It's beautiful and mesmerizing! Very happy with this second purchase from Evil Genius Labs.

A true piece of art!

The 256-sized Fibonacci disc is amazingly hypnotic. The patterns using the as-shipped code are great, and setup is easy with just a cell phone (to access the WiFi access point it creates, so you can connect the device to your own WiFi).

Documentation is well above average for open-source projects, but it does presume some technical capability if you want to update the software or customize.

As-shipped, it's ready to hang on a wall, with a single USB power cord, creating a mesmerizing piece that will capture your guests' attention (repeatedly, and often without them realizing they've been staring at it for 30 seconds with mouth open).

This thing is incredible!!!

This thing is absolutely stunning, Videos and pictures to not do it justice.
It's now on my wall and will be a conversation piece for years to come.
Setup was a little tricky to get it on the WiFi So I would not recommend for the run of the mill average person off the street, but if you have some basic computer / networking skills, it's no issue at all.
Love this thing..

Gorgeous and easy to set up

I was ordering this expecting to have to load some example code and start hacking on FastLED or connect it to some other LED controller I know well.

Instead, because I ordered the “Fully assembled” version, I was so happy to find that this is actually wall-ready art. The builtin patterns and parameters were super easy to get going and tweak from my phone.

I love this thing. This is ready out-of-the-box to be given as a gorgeous, unique gift.

A superb, hypnotic, and astonishing light display

I resisted buying this for several weeks because of the need to import it to the UK, but I'm so glad I finally gave in and placed the order. It took just over a week to get to me in the UK, and has taken centre stage in the collection of programmable LED objects decorating the bookcases behind me in online meetings. It's already had several comments and questions from colleagues fascinated by it and wanting their own. It's certainly more interesting than looking at me in meetings(!), and I've just ordered a couple of the smaller ones for Christmas presents.

It's the most enjoyable and fascinating piece of electronics I've bought, and that's saying a lot. I'll be getting another 256 for the living room when they're back in stock, as I'm aware my colleagues enjoy the one in my office even more than I do!

Oh so nice!

Worked great until it stopped...

When it works, it's beautiful.

Minor nit: it's really hard to get the USB power cord in far enough to easily connect.

Unfortunately, it stopped working about a week ago (and yes, I'm busy enough that I just noticed). I've double checked the power supply and cord. Both work with other devices; the Fibonacci doesn't work with multiple power supplies.

Wah! I need my beautiful blinkenlights!

Fantastic

The quality of the effect and the product are top notch and absolutely worth the price. It’s hard not to stop and stare at how beautiful this is. More importantly, I had a minor issue with my fib256 and the support I received was outstanding. Very friendly and helpful communication, with multiple options to solve my issue. I will be buying from this vendor again.

A true work of art!

I have a lot of colored lights in my house, ranging from off the shelf Hue and Nanoleaf to more hand crafted pieces like the Pixelblaze, and I can say definitively that the Fibonacci256 is one of the best in any category. I got the complete kit and the results of the matted cover with the light leaking from the sides really is able to light up a room.
The patterns though in combination with the varying strength of the leds really gives an organic feel that adds depth to the device and you really get sucked in as the patterns swirl and shift.
What makes this device even better is the quality of the underlying software. A lot of devices are pretty bare bones in terms of the actual software, but the underlying esp8266-fastled-webserver is top notch, actually excepting pull requests (an anomaly from my experience) and being actively developed.
Highly recommended!
