Read More…The AVR Fuse doctor is a high voltage parallel or serial programmer that can reset AVR processors fuses regardless of the current fuse bits state or which are bricked or in a state that the ASP - SPI programmer cannot talk to it.
The fuse doctor can reset the RSTDISBL or SPIEN fuse and restore it back to factory defaults.
The programmer can program a wide range of processors. Has LED state indication, serial output for monitoring fuse details, and also built-in 5v to 12v step up converter.
The board is equipped with 10 Status LEDs- The most important are the Green LED that indicates programming success, the Red LED that indicates a programming error. The Board can work without a computer as standalone or connected to see the device fuse bits data.
Whilst working with AVR processors, it's common to program the wrong fuse bits and lose the SPI processor communication. Although you program the correct fuse bits - the device sometimes behaves erratic - resetting the fuse bits will fix it right. Its a handy tool to have in the workshop as it can fix issues with AVR processors.
I have upgraded this version with features that I have identified to have a programmer with minimal user requirements.
So I did these upgrades:
Board measures 100 x 75mm - very small board
Board can program both DIL 28pin, 40pin,20pin,14pin,8pin, and SMD soic8 and TQFP packages.
Features a 40 pin SIL header connector to connect Future Adapters to host other AVR Processors
Uses USB port to power the board- either from a Power Bank / Mains Adapter or a computer
It can work as a stand-alone unit or with a computer USB port to power the board and monitor the device being programmed and visualize the fuses being programmed.
Can reset the following Processors on the Board:
-ATMEGA 8/48/88/168/328
-ATMEGA 16/32/164/324
-ATTINY 2313/4313
-ATTINY 24/44/84
-ATTINY 12/13/15/25/45/85
-Plus many others by using the SIL Feature Header Connector for future adapters
It has 2 LEDs used to show the status of the target chip - green (GOOD) and red (BAD).
GREEN LED light: Green is constantly on - the chip fuse bits are restored. If the protection bits are enabled, then it will simply check the status of the fuses - if it is factory defaults, and if so, then the green LED lights up.
GREEN LED light: flashing Green flashing - the signature is OK, but the fuse bits are in the wrong state. The reason is that the protection bits are set, you need permission to completely clear the restored AVR (You must change the ERASE jumper from OFF to ON).
RED LED light: Red is constantly on - there is a problem with the signature, it cannot be read, there is no microcontroller in the socket, or there is no such signature in the fuse-doctor database.
RED LED light: flashing Red blinks - the signature is read, there is no blocking by protection bits, but for some reason, it is impossible to write a new value for the fuse bits.
1 x Fully Assembled and Tested Board.
