This is the second edition of the WSPR Beacon, now with many improvements! A big thank you to Scott L. Baker for his invaluable help in making this project a reality and for providing the firmware that powers it. All software credits go to him!

I have dedicated almost six months of my evenings to test the hardware and improve the wspr beacon.

In version 1 had these issues

• Using a 25mhz crystal the carrier used to drift -/+ 3 or 4 Hz during a transmission

• The GPS used to take a while to sync and get a lock

• The board did not have a pa fuse on its supply

• The board did not have the button and wiring for the pps and frequency measurement.

In Version 2: All version 1 issues were addressed and improvements added

• A Temperature compensated oscillator of 25MHz is used on the frequency synthesizer making it very stable and drift is -/+1

• The gps antenna has been extended to an SMA connector on the side of the board and an external 1 inch antenna can be used.

• The PA is now protected with a 2 Amp Fuse.

• The necessary wiring to measure the frequency and PPS are now included on the board.

• Now using an SMD Atmega328p 32 pin on board - Instead of a nano board

• Board now has a connector for a serial port - provided a usb to serial adapter is used.

• Board has now voltage Regulators for +5V and 3V3 1Amp rating

• Added led status in the bottom left corner - flashes when syncing and transmitting

Now software can do auto calibration and has a terminal menu.

This kit requires that you enter your call sign through a serial terminal menu BEFORE it can start to operate and transmit the beacon.

Before going on air the beacon needs to be configured through a serial terminal with your call sign and respective band together with the correct LPF fitted.

The QRP WSPR BEACON MODULE can be configured to perform Band hopping that hops over multiple bands. It can also be configured on a single band.(Software Currently in development for band hopping and one band operation is supported for now.)

This module uses an ATMega328 clocked at 16Mhz, a GPS ATGM336H module, and an onboard Si5351 with 74ACT244 buffer and three Mosfets driven separately to form the PA section to complete a QRP WSPR beacon delivering powers up to 5 watts.

The module rf output is buffered in an ADX style 244 buffer and driven by x3 mosfet drive PA. A filter is also included on board or else module filters can be used adx-mini type. 20-meter band is the default band shipped.

The beacon features a serial menu where various settings can be configured.

The board is powered from a DC barrel jack 2.1mm and RF output is provided through the BNC connector.

Also, the board features side connectors for interfacing with the upcoming filter switchboard for band hopping.(Not Yet Implemented)
