The QRP dummy load, equipped with an RF detector circuit, enables the utilization of a standard voltmeter to gauge RF power output, making it perfect for individuals adjusting homemade QRP transmitters. It also incorporates an LED indicator that illuminates when RF is detected.

Even extremely low power levels, such as 50mW or lower, will activate the LED. This design takes a different approach by not directly connecting the voltage tap-off point across the 50-ohm load. This configuration ensures the protection of the connected radio, as nothing adverse will occur to the transmitter if the voltage output terminals are short-circuited.

The QRP Dummy Load employs a collection of resistors to achieve a reliable 50-ohm match, with each resistor having a power rating of 2 watts. Consequently, the dummy load can handle a maximum power of 16 watts during operation. Although higher power levels can be tested briefly, it is crucial to consider the resistor's rating.
